Forest Warrior

I'm still not entirely sure how it happened, but in January I found myself agreeing to do the Forest Warrior - a 10k mud/obstacle race - as part of a team at work.

2.5 months of denial and half arsed "training" later six of us dragged ourselves through a lot of mud, climbed over walls, scrambled in and out of ditches, carried tyres up and down hills, crawled and swam through various depths of water, and ran/jogged/walked the bits in between.  Oh, and got shot at with paintballs (but none of us were hit, hurrah)

Deutschland

A rare occasion where most of the software department were let out of a) the office and b) the country for work purposes.

Couple of days of meetings in Germany.  On the hottest week of the year so far - 33° and no air con in their offices, argh.  But lovely cooling(!) seats in our hire car, which was a bell and whistle filled Range Rover.  Nice.

Thursday morning I get told that a volcano has erupted in Iceland, and flights were probably going to be grounded all day....  My return flight was Saturday at 9pm.

So there followed two days of obsessive refreshing of BBC news and easyjet's status webpages.
By Saturday morning my flight had officially been cancelled. 'Luckily'... continue reading »

No More Job

Awww, I've finished work :(  This makes me sad because my job is (was!) ace, but also it hasn't really sunk in yet, and probably won't do until I actually move out of Ludlow.

But on the positive side, I have a new toy :)  It's slightly laptop shaped.  In fact, very laptop shaped.  Can you guess what it is yet?

Its name is Arthur, and anyone after techy details may like to know that it's an Acer somethingorother, dual core with significantly more ram and hard drive space than my desktop.  Oh, and Windows Vista.  ick.

Obviously I shall... continue reading »
