j'apprends le français

To the apparent surprise of both of my parents, I've signed up for French evening classes.

It's not actually that surprising - I did French at GCSE many years ago, and have been half arsedly trying to relearn for a few years now, because I hate the attitude of "I speak English so why do I need to learn anything else when everyone else speaks it too?".  Genuinely jealous of people who can speak more than one language with relative fluency.

About a year ago I signed up to Duolingo - to try and learn a bit of German in preparation for last year's paddling holiday.  What actually happened is that I remembered that German is confusing, and got distracted by the French lessons because I knew enough to make them seem 'easy'!

I finished the French skills tree at the end of July and have managed to keep up practising most days since.  It keeps telling me I can read about 96% of all French articles, which I'm not convinced about - but certainly I can now read things well enough to vaguely understand most of it.  I've even read some dual language fairy tales and have found a nice geeky webcomic!  Pretty pleased with this.

The internet is less useful for speaking/listening though, hence deciding to go 'back to school'.

Don't be too surprised if I go on holiday somewhere in France (or perhaps Luxembourg) at some point this year...
