kubuntu is still rubbish!

Well, the good news is that I finall got kubuntu to install! Off the live cd - only difference this time is that I unplugged my usb hub. hmm. But it installed quickly and painlessly and without nuking my /home and /fat partitions, so that's good.

Bad news is that far too many things aren't working. Sound (meh), USB anything (wtf, this isn't win98!) and more annoyingly, internet.
Having a computer with no network connection is actually quite useless, given that 90% of everything I use it for involves the internet. Not even got php/apache/mysql installed yet so it's not like I can play around with stuff offline either. boo :(

So I've spent the last 3 and a half hours booting and rebooting between linux and windows trying to get my network card to work.
The drivers are there, the config files look fine and I've been through everything about eight times now, but still no network!
It should talk to the router and do DHCP stuff to get an IP etc, but I keep getting an annoying message about there not being any leases. blah. Even when I tried giving it a static IP and all the DNS/gateway details etc it still refused to work. This is particuarly annoying as 'proper' debian never had any problems with my network card. Just with everything else...
Have now completely run out of ideas, and am going to have to resort to the ubuntu support forums I think. eep :s
