I've had a week of 'relaxation' in Wales. mmm. Back in Brum now for a huge amount of revision and work and stuff.
Anyway, my parents have a BT Home Hub. Nothing wrong with that (well...), apart from it's a pain in the arse and refuses to let my laptop connect to it wirelessly.
It'll let Vista connect fine, but I don't really like having to use Windows for any longer than I absolutely have to. In linux, it tries, but the dhcp stuff never seems to happen and I get that annoying message about "no working leases in persistent database - sleeping". Kind of like the hub is completely ignoring it. How rude.
But now, we have a breakthrough. Connect via ethernet cable, then try the wireless. As if by magic, it works. WTF?!
I have no internet at home, and haven't for several days now. But according to tech support/customer service/whatever there's absolutely no problem and it's all working fine. Er, no...
Predictably I'm not happy about this, as it means I can't get anything done at home. Which means spending too much time in hot stuffy smelly computer labs at uni, and on Tuesday the added excitement/hassle of having to drive over to the office in Ludlow to get some work finished off. Not amused. At all.
ooh, look what I wrote on the fridge this morning:
There I was, gossiping and wasting time online as I usually am at 1am, when suddenly the whole house started shaking. Bit confusing at first 'cos I wasn't sure what was going on - things rattle a bit sometimes when fast trains go past, but this was much more violent and went on for longer. 15 seconds maybe? It was quite an odd experience.
Then it suddenly occured to me that maybe we'd just had an earthquake! and oh look, I was right. hehe.
Right now on the BBC website they've got a few videos sent in by the general public. Top quality, and in no way utterly pointless... Quite how a crappy clip taken on someone's phone of some studenty types playing wii and then going "woah, what was that?" counts as any sort of useful journalism I'm not sure...
