I have a new phone It's a lovely shiny android (linux!!) powered HTC Magic.  Very nice

Far too much hassle actually getting my hands on one though... For starters, it's only available on Vodafone.  Which might have been ok if they hadn't decided that I failed their credit check (for reasons unknown - my credit rating is absolutely fine!).  Then I figured it was a bit of a lucky escape anyway as they're bastards about transferring phone numbers to them...

So, now I have an unlocked magic, courtesy of eBay, and a sim only O2 contract.  Which I think should actually work out at a bit cheaper overall than the vodafone contract would have - and includes a lot more minutes and texts. hah.

I've had the phone for a week now, and so far have mostly been abusing the Android Marketplace to install (and later remove) loads of crappy games/apps.  Including a kayaking game!  which I am really not very good at, and don't want to pay to get more levels, so that one won't last much longer I don't think.

The novelty of a phone with a touchscreen/wifi/gps/etc is keeping me very amused - I've got a lovely gps trace of Sunday's bike ride, although I've yet to figure out what to do with it...

Today's activities so far: cycling to Over, then standing on the bridge for the best part of an hour waiting to see this:

Only a 2* bore today, but still quite impressive to watch - especially as I've not seen it before. 

There was a 3* late last night, and more 3 and 4* ones due next month, so plenty of opportunity to find a better viewpoint for photographing it...

There were a few people attempting to surf it, although without a huge amount of success.

This week has been somewhat busy.

Tuesday evening we had an evening session down at Symonds Yat, which is always fun.  Much carnage from other groups there with beginners, hehe.

Then on Wednesday, an evening at the races!  'Beer and a Balti' at Chepstow with work - and despite me having no knowledge of (or interest in) horse racing, I returned at a profit!  A whole five pounds, won on a horse chosen purely on jockey colours (black with pink stars).  Well, I say five pounds, really it was seven but I lost the other two in the next race...

Yesterday afternoon I very cleverly managed to overwrite my live database here with an older backup.  D'oh.  Luckily I've managed to fix most of the damage, but still.  That'll teach me not to just copy and paste between phpmyadmins...

Did get a quick bike ride in today, although not as much as I'd have liked, because after about 20 minutes it started raining.  Heavily.  Got 20k done in the end, which isn't too bad I suppose.
