Well, I've had a really good and busy weekend And as it turns out, also quite an expensive one. bah...
Friday evening was a UBKC polo tournament. Current teams vs old gits (I chose to just spectate, hah). We then went for curry, which involved consumption of far too much wine.
Bit of a lie in on Saturday (and more than a bit of feeling quite ill). Then off we went to Llangollen, for a quick bash down the Dee
Back to Birmingham and time for more socialising - pie party, then pub, then sitting about watching random films for a bit. This involved me having to parallel park twice in one evening, which was somewhat shameful... I think I have now done it about 6 times since passing my test, and seem to have mostly forgotten how.
On Sunday we went to the cinema to see Underworld, and were then thinking of going ice skating but it was closed. So instead, pub food watching the snow!
Anyway, at some point over the weekend an interesting clunking noise developed in the back of my car, which I was trying to claim was just stuff in the boot. General opinion seemed to suggest a suspension related noise though.
Both wrong - it was actually the exhaust falling apart Corroded through in about three places. I am blaming the salt on the roads for finishing it off, bah. Getting that sorted yesterday (plus two new tyres) has used up half of my boat fund, which is rather annoying.
Facebook's latest irritating feature seems to be a little buggy, hehe.
A box on someone's profile if their birthday is coming up, encouraging you to give them a gift. That's virtual gifts which cost a dollar each... so of course this has nothing to do with Facebook trying to make some money, hah. (side note - do people seriously waste money on those?!)
Anyway, I read their blog post about it and wandered off to find some examples of it. First up, a male profile (names removed for privacy!)
Some confusion there then! Same with another male friend, but female friends' profiles were fine. So I thought I'd take a screenshot.
Checked back a few hours later and it had been fixed. Or so I thought, until I looked at a female profile and saw this:
Haha. They swapped the bug around, and it's still doing it as I type this. Very clever...
I've taken up swimming again. To clarify, that's in a swimming pool, rather than rivers A year (or so) of uni has got in the way of my old routine of going every week, but I've got the time and money again now, so yeah.
Did 40 lengths last week, and 60 this. Ideally working my way back up to doing 80 (2km) at a time, and hopefully I can find a time to go when it's not insanely busy and full of children/slow moving OAPs.
Several points of note though:
it's probably time to invest in a new swimming costume
swimming is easier when there aren't rocks/trees/current in the way
I seem to be able to hold my breath for a lot longer than I used to
The pool in Gloucester is quite nice though - for one, the clock at the end of the pool is digital, and huge enough that I can actually see what it says! Also, so far anyone who's crashed into me has actually apologised - that's a big improvement on Ludlow, where idiots doing backstroke (why why why do people do this in a crowded pool?!) would give me evils for 'getting in their way' even though it was clearly their fault. grr.
Oh yes, and being a local resident I get to save a massive 40p on entrance. woohoo!
